Rothy’s do not make your feet sweat, your feet sweat naturally. However, due to being made of plastic material, Rothy’s do make your feet more prone to sweating, resulting in wet, sticky feet. Moreover, sweating can often result in foul foot odor if your feet are prone to become smelly.

Do Rothy’s Make Your Feet Sweat?
Your feet, like most other parts of your body, sweat on their own from time to time.
However, Rothy’s do make your feet sweat more when you are wearing them.
Now, why does this happen?
If you don’t know already, Rothy’s is a sustainable brand. They manufacture their shoes out of 100% recycled plastic. It mainly uses single-use plastic bottles, marine plastics, and other post-consumer plastic materials, all recycled to brand new.
The recycled plastic is spun into a smooth fiber which is knitted to form the upper of the flats, attached to an eco-friendly rubber sole.
Since it is made of recycled plastic, the material is non-porous, meaning it does not absorb the sweat being produced by your feet.
Moreover, even though the plastic is knitted in a woven pattern, the holes formed within the pattern are too small (even negligible). As a result, there is very poor ventilation within the shoes, minimizing airflow.
Due to these reasons, when you wear Rothy’s, your feet get more sweaty than they would otherwise.

Do Rothy’s Make Your Feet Smell?
Saying that Rothy’s makes your feet smell wouldn’t be exactly untrue.
Since Rothy’s are made of recycled plastic, the air circulation within the shoes is very poor. So, as your feet get all sweaty, an unpleasant odor can form.
Especially if your feet are prone to sweating or smell, the chances are high that wearing Rothy’s can result in foot odor.
Since plastic is not odor-absorbant, it does not help in the foot-odor department. However, all this does not mean that you cannot wear Rothy’s without minimizing these issues. Keep reading to know how to make the sweat and smell go away.

How To Prevent Your Rothy’s From Smelling
Besides sweaty feet, one big problem with Rothy’s is when they start stinking because of your feet’ odor. And let’s face it, smelly feet and shoes are a big, big embarrassment.
However, it’s not something that is inevitable.
There are a few ways you can avoid your Rothy’s from getting all smelly besides the methods mentioned above to prevent sweaty feet, which can also work in minimizing the formation of foot odor.
Here are the ways to prevent your Rothy’s from smelling:
Wash Them Regularly
One of the best things about Rothy’s is that they are entirely machine-washable!
How often you wash them will depend on how often you wear them and how prone to sweating your feet are.
If you wear them occasionally, I would recommend washing them once a month. However, if you wash them regularly, then it is a must that you wash them at least once a week.
To wash them, first, you will have to take out the insoles of your Rothy’s.
Next, using a cold water cycle, wash your Rothy’s and the insoles.
Don’t forget to add in your regular washing detergent to ensure that the smell is gone for good, period.
After they are washed clean, leave them to air dry in a dry place. However, do not put them in the dryer of your washing machine because that may ruin them since they are made of plastic.
Once they are fully dry and odor-free, you are good to go.
Wash Your Rothy’s With Baking Soda And Vinegar
Now, there may be times when the smell gets too bad. I really hope your situation doesn’t come to this, but if it does, then there’s a solution for that too.
If you think your Rothy’s are beyond saving from a simple wash in the machine, don’t worry, all hope isn’t lost.
You can wash your Rothy’s with baking soda and vinegar to get rid of the worst stinks with this.
First, take out the insoles of your shoes and place them in a dish. Cover both the insoles fully with baking soda.
Let the baking soda sit on the insoles for about an hour.
Then, fill a spray bottle with vinegar and spray a generous amount of vinegar all over the insoles while the baking soda is still on them. You will notice bubbles appearing on them.
Keep spraying the vinegar until no more bubbles form – this means most of the odor has been removed.
Then remove all of the baking soda from the insoles (ensure you dust off as much as possible).
Once all the baking soda is off the insoles, wash the insoles and the Rothy’s shoes in the washing machine on a medium cycle.
Take them out once the washing is done and leave them to air dry. After they are dry, you’ll get your Rothy’s smelling fresh as new.
