I have been using the Asics Kayano series since the Kayano 27, and I really love its signature cloud-like cushioning.
However, the new Nike Structure 25 has brought various upgrades from its predecessor, which attracted my attention.
I have been running with both of these models for the last couple of months and noticed many dissimilarities.
Today, I’ll share the differences between Asics Kayano and Nike Structure and help you choose the right shoe.
So, let’s begin.
Overview of Nike Structure and ASICS Kayano
Nike and Asics have had a long connection since the very early days, and both are making competitive shoes to rule the market.
The GEL-Kayano and Structure are two models from Asics and Nike that put impressive results on the road and are widely popular with customers worldwide.
Nike Structure
The first Nike Structure shoe was released in 1991. It was originally called the Nike Air Structure Triax 91.
The Structure series is a popular stability shoe series designed for everyday running sessions.
It’s soft, responsive, and has sufficient medial support to give an efficient run.
Nike Structure is extremely popular with runners who are looking for the best support and comfortable experience in the long distance.
Asics GEL-Kayano
The GEL Kayano was first released in 1993. It has brought one shoe yearly for the last 30 years.
It’s a top-of-the-line product by ASICS, well-known for its plush cushioning, smooth ride, and excellent support.
The Kayao series is highly suitable for correcting pronation and is popular with runners seeking comfort and performance.
Before purchasing any of these models, you should learn about their details and specifications. So that, you can be sure about the compatibility and get the most desired outcome from your choice.

Therefore, it’s challenging to compare all the versions on the same page.

Feature Comparison Between Asics Kayano 30 and Nike Structure
The Kayano and Structure are flagship models from Asics and Nike. Both stability shoes are great on the road and provide fantastic performance.
However, they have design and technological differences that separate them from each other.
Here are the feature differences between Asics Gel-Kayano 30 and Nike Structure 25:
1. Upper Material
ASICS Kayano 30 uses Engineered jacquard mesh to construct the upper material.
It’s plush and very stretchy. The jacquard mesh is breathable but feels warm in the summer or hot weather.
However, there are numerous small perforations on the upper, which help with air circulation and keep the feet warm.
On the other hand, the Nike Structure 25 uses Engineered mesh for the upper material.
It’s thinner and more breathable compared to GEL Kayano. It feels very comfortable to wear in all seasons and is highly suitable for hot weather conditions.
The Structure has perforations around the midfoot and on the tongue to circulate the air inside your feet.
2. Design & Aesthetics
Asics Gel-Kayano has a regular tongue and lace mechanism. It has six eyelets on each side and a lace loop on the tongue.
The tongue is non-gusseted, but the thick tongue helps to give a good tightness.
Kayano doesn’t have a pull tab at the back. Though, I didn’t face any problem wearing the shoes easily.
The Asics logo is present at the midfoot area on both the medial and lateral sides of the shoe. GEL-Kayano 30 is written above the heel to show the series and model name.
The tongue has an asics logo inside a hexagon border to show the branding.
Asics Gel Kayano 30 comes in 21 colors, including black, white, blue, yellow, red, etc.
In contrast, the Nike Structure uses a combination of regular and webbing lacing systems. The Structure 25 and Nike Pegasus 40 follow the same lacing system.
I’m not a big fan of this method. However, the system becomes normal after several uses.
The tongue is thick and non-gusseted. But, the lace loop on the tongue helps with the fitting and keeps it in one place.
The heel counter is slightly curved at the top, which isn’t entirely a pull tab. But it works well if you need additional support in wearing the shoe.
Nike Structure 25 comes in 9 colors, including black, white, green, yellow, blue, etc.
The swoosh is visible at the medial and lateral sides of the shoes, and Nike Structure 25 branding is above the tongue.
3. Sole Technology
The Asics Gel-Kayano 30 and Nike Structure 25 have significant differences in the sole technology.
Insole
Kayano 30 uses an OrthoLite X-55 sockliner, and Nike Structure 25 uses a foam insole.
Luckily, both models have a removable insole, and you can replace it with a better orthotics insole for increased support.
Midsole
The Asics uses an FF Blast+ Eco midsole for the Gel Kayano 30. It’s plush, very soft, and provides cloud-like comfort.
It’s lighter than the previous generation but has an increasing 4 mm stack height for better cushioning.
Interestingly, Asics Kayano 30 and Nimbus 25 use the same GEL technology at the heel to absorb the shock after landing.
On the other hand, the Nike Structure 25 uses Cushlon 3.0 for the entire midsole unit.
It’s moderately soft and highly suitable for running at a slow speed.
Structure 25 has an Air Zoom unit at the midsole. Unlike the Nike Pegasus 40, the Structure series only provides the Zoom unit in the forefoot area.
It gives bouncy feedback after landing and helps you go forward with every stride. It has a great energy return, which helps in long-distance running.
Outsole
Asics Kayano 30 uses the AHAR Plus (Asics High Absorption Rubber) rubber for the outsole construction. It’s very durable and perfect for running in all types of weather.
On the contrary, Nike Structure 25 uses blown rubber to make the outsole. The zoned waffle pattern effectively gives a good grip while running.
4. Size & Weight
Both Asics Gel Kayano 30 and Nike Structure 25 fit true to size. Therefore, you no longer need to worry about the fitting while purchasing online.
Parameter | Asics Gel-Kayano 30 | Nike Structure 25 |
---|---|---|
Stack Height | Heel: 40mm Forefoot: 30mm | Heel: 37mm Forefoot: 27mm |
Heel-to-toe Drop | 10mm | 10mm |
Weight | 10.7oz/ 303gm (US Men 9) | 10.8oz/ 306gm (US Men 9) |
Kayano 30 has a higher stack height but weighs slightly less than Nike Structure 25.
However, compared to Asics Kayano 29 and Kayano 30, the newer model has become bigger and heavier over the years.
5. Fit & Comfort
The ASICS Kayano has an incredible upper construction. It is stretchy but enough to keep my feet stable.
It feels very warm and comfortable after wearing it. But the Kayano isn’t the most suitable for running in hot weather.
The tongue isn’t gusseted. However, the lace loop prevents the tongue from sliding horizontally.
Asics Kayano 30 has ample cushioning around the tongue, heel collar, and forefoot. It gives good comfort and support while running a long distance.
The GEL technology provides a cloud-like feel after landing and absorbs the shock.
On the other hand, the Nike Structure 25 has a more breathable engineered mesh upper.
The perforations around the midfoot and tongue make it even better to cool the feet and make it suitable for all weather conditions.
The non-gusseted tongue doesn’t create a problem in the running. Instead, the sufficient padding on the tongue and heel collar gives impressive comfort in daily sessions.
The Nike Air Zoom unit on the forefoot has brought revolutionary changes, especially for stride runners like me.
It helps with a soft landing and provides a bounce back with excellent energy return.
The most impressive thing is Nike offers an extra wide version of Structure 25 in their store. So, if you have a wider forefoot, it can accommodate your feet very easily.
6. Stability & Support
Asics Gel-Kayano 30 uses various advanced features to improve the stability and support during running.
It has a unique heel sculpture in the midsole, similar to Asics Gel Kayano 28 and Asics GT 2000 9.
The midsole is bent inward at the lateral side and increased at the medial side to help with the midfoot support.
Also, Asics uses a 4D Guidance System at the outsole to correct the feet with every step.
In contrast, the Nike Structure 25 has a midfoot support on the medial side to reduce overpronation.
The midsole is extended above to create a sidewall for helping your feet with natural stride.
In addition, the Air Zoom unit at the forefoot gives support while running with an extra push to save your energy for the long run.
7. Durability & Performance
Asics GEL Kayano 30 is very durable and excellent for daily running sessions.
I’ve been using this model for the past four months and ran over 150 miles. So far, I’ve found no issue with the shoe.
The upper and midsole are in perfect condition. The outsole didn’t wear out at all in my first 50 miles.
With the Nike Structure 25, I’ve run around 100 miles on track and road.
It’s super comfy in hot weather, and the shoes don’t wet much by sweating.
The upper and midsole are in good condition. The foam insole gives excellent support, while the durable outsole is pretty much the same as when I bought it first.
Both shoes are highly suitable for regular running sessions, and with proper care, they will last for more than 350+ miles very easily.
8. Price Comparison
Asics Kayano 30 and Nike Structure 25 are mid-range priced running shoes.
- »Around $160
- »Around $140
The shoes have around a $20 difference in the online or retail shop.
Both models are outstanding and offer a reasonable price. The value entirely depends on your choice and preferences.
But, if you can grab them at a discounted price, it will be a win-win purchase.
