Ultimate Comparison Between Asics GT-1000 10 and Asics GT-2000 9
Choosing the right Asics stability shoe can be tricky, especially when both the GT 1000 10 and GT 2000 9 boast impressive features.
To help you make an informed decision, I’ve put together a comprehensive comparison covering everything from upper materials and design to price and performance.
Here are the feature comparison between Asics GT-1000 10 and Asics GT-2000 9:
1. Upper Material
The upper material doesn’t have significant differences between GT-1000 10 and GT-2000 9.
Asics GT 1000 10 uses engineered mesh for constructing the upper. The entire upper portion is made out of one piece.
The tongue is long and has a standard size. It’s thick and makes the shoe very comfortable to wear.
GT-1000 10 has a regular lacing system with six eyelets on each side.
After wearing the shoes at first, the upper gave a snug fit, and the cushioning at the heel and forefoot felt very comfy.
It seems stiff at first. But after using it several times, the upper stretches a bit and offers an excellent fitting.
Similarly, the Asics GT 2000 9 is made with an engineered mesh from a single-piece material.
It’s highly breathable, and lots of perforations make it very comfortable even in hot weather conditions.
The tongue is wide and long compared to the GT 1000 10. It’s equally thick and gives decent comfort.
It has six eyelets at each side and a lace holder in the middle for a firm tightening.
There’s sufficient cushioning around the heel collar and forefoot to give outstanding ankle support and comfortable stride.
2. Design & Aesthetics
The overall design is very similar in both models.
The upper is made from the same engineered mesh, but the texture is a bit different.
Asics GT-1000 10 has a rough upper finish, while GT-2000 9 has a smoother texture.
Both models offer minimalistic design and aesthetics. They don’t catch too much attention while walking or running on the road.
There’s no additional overlay on the upper, so the structure looks clean and simple.
Asics GT-1000 10 comes in five different color combinations. Meanwhile, the GT-2000 9 offers 13 different colorways.
The GT 1000 10 is good, but the GT 2000 9 is even better in terms of design and aesthetics.
3. Insole, Midsole & Outsole
The GT 1000 and 2000 series have a lot of common factors in the sole category. The 2000 series is just an upgrade of 1000 in every technological aspect.
Insole
Asics GT 1000 10 and GT 2000 9 offer removable Ortholite sockliner. They control the moisture and provide soft step-in comfort.
They are soft and easy to clean. Moreover, you can change them with an orthotic insole for better arch support.
Midsole
Both models use FLYTEFOAM technology for the midsole. They have a dual-density DuoMax support system in the midsole to provide inward rolling control.
But, the difference comes in the GEL technology.
The GT-1000 10 uses the GEL in the rearfoot or heel area for smooth step and transition. Meanwhile, GT-2000 9 uses the technology in both rearfoot and forefoot areas.
It gives better shock absorption and allows you to move your feet easily.
Outsole
Asics GT 1000 10 and GT 2000 9 use AHAR Plus (ASICS High Abrasion Rubber) technology for the outsole construction.
However, the GT 2000 9 has a Trusstic system between the forefoot and rearfoot rubber to enhance midfoot gait efficiency.
4. Size & Weight
Both Asics GT-1000 10 and GT-2000 9 offer true to size fit.
Parameter | Asics GT-1000 10 | Asics GT-2000 9 |
---|---|---|
Stack Height | Heel: 31mm Forefoot: 21mm | Heel: 22mm Forefoot: 12mm |
Heel-to-toe Drop | 10mm | 10mm |
Weight | 9.8 oz/ 277 gm | 9.9 oz/ 280 gm |
However, the 1000 models have a roomy and comfortable fit compared to the 2000. The GT-2000 9 offers a snug and plusher fit.
So, if you feel the Asics GT 2000 9 is a bit tight for your feet, I recommend getting a bigger version.
GT 1000 10 and GT 2000 9 have half and full sizes available in the store. So, it wouldn’t be hard to find the best fittings.
But, the 2000 series offers up to US 17, whereas the GT-1000 10 has the US 14.
Both shoes weigh the same. In my personal usage, I haven’t noticed any significant weight differences.
However, the GT 1000 10 is very tall, especially in the midfoot area.
The stack height in the GT-1000 10 is 31mm at the heel and 21mm at the forefoot. Meanwhile, the GT-2000 9 has only 22mm at the heel and 12mm at the forefoot.
The 9mm gap is huge and dramatically impacts while walking or running.
5. Fit & Comfort
Regarding fit and comfort, Asics GT 1000 10 and GT 2000 9 take the opposite paths.
The GT-1000 10 is very soft and cushioned running shoes. It has sufficient foam around the heel collar and forefoot.
After putting on the shoes, the cushion around the tongue and midfoot wraps my feet very nicely. The soft insole is very comfortable, and the GEL technology gives a smooth step.
The shoe feels snug initially. But after breaking it at 20 miles, the GT-1000 10 starts feeling cozy.
The higher stack height actually helps me to roll my feet and allows me to move forward with minimal energy loss.
I’ve run more than 10 miles daily with the GT 1000 10, and my experience was superb throughout the journey.
On the other hand, the Asics GT-2000 9 is slightly firmer compared to the GT-1000 10.
It has ample cushioning around the heel collar and midfoot but doesn’t resemble the 1000 series.
Initially, the comfort level was pretty fantastic in GT 2000 9.
However, after running around 10K, it started feeling stiff, and my feet didn’t want to continue running. But, the response was amazing in this shoe and very good for track or tempos.
I did a few short runs, and the comfort was truly satisfying.
The tongue and heel collar gave necessary cushioning, and the GEL on my rear and forefeet helped with the quiet landing.
6. Stability & Support
The Asics GT-1000 10 offers various technologies for providing support and stability.
The GEL technology in the rearfoot or heel minimizes the shock after landing on the heel striker. It helps with a better transition in every step.
The GT 1000 10 uses a dual-density DuoMax midsole that provides stability and support in the feet. It’s surprisingly good for people with normal, flat, or low arches.
It provides sufficient support to the neutral and overpronation and saves from injury.
On the other hand, Asics GT 2000 9 offers better and more advanced stability and support systems.
The GEL technology is used in both forefoot and rearfoot to provide shock absorption during impact.
The dynamic DuoMax enhances the stability by increasing the platform support.
Asics GT-2000 9 uses Guidance Trusstic system technology to increase gait efficiency and help with the midfoot structural integrity.
The no sew overlay at the midfoot increases the arch support and provides stability during neutral and overpronation.
7. Durability & Performance
Asics is well known for its durability. The same goes for GT 1000 10 and GT 2000 9 running shoes.
I have used the Asics GT-1000 10 for two years and run over 400 miles wearing the shoes.
The comfort and cushioning of this shoe were fantastic, and I was delighted with the performance.
I mostly used the Asics GT 1000 10 for slow running.
The cushioning started to become low after 200 miles, but it was still pretty good at the end.
The upper construction has no scratches or worn-out issues, and the outsole is still in fine condition.
After retiring my GT 1000 10, I bought the GT-2000 9 around two years ago.
So far, I’ve run around 350 miles wearing the shoes. For short and mid-distance, the performance is top-notch.
The foam around the heel collar and forefoot still holds my feet pretty well.
With good care, both the Asics GT-1000 10 and GT-2000 9 will go above 400 miles very easily.
8. Price Comparison
Asics GT 1000 10 and GT 2000 9 are affordable and budget-friendly running shoes.
- »Around $100

They have around a $20 difference in the official Asics store.
